Happy Father's Day

Dear husband,

Some days I may not seem grateful for you. For the things you do or for the person you are. 

I often get frustrated when the lawn stays unmowed, when the dishes remain in the sink and when the bills pile up on the counter unpaid. 

I would also love for you to make dinner once in a while. By yourself. With no direction. K? Thanks. 

But the truth is, I’m super grateful for you. 

I’m grateful for your patience.

Patience with our two little loves and also with me. There are so many times when I am ready to lose my mind. These past few months of being home in quarantine have truly tested my sanity. But for you, you continue to work all day, then come home to a house of chaos and remain calm. The moment you walk in the door you are tackled by two tiny humans as well as a 90-lb fur baby. But you scoop them up with loving arms as a reminder of how much they are loved. I may not always welcome you home the way the rest of the family does and my tired and makeupless face surely doesn’t give off the welcoming vibe that they do, but please know I am always happy to see you. Always. 

While small things tend to get on my nerves such as dirty clothes on the floor, high pitch screeching and excessive use of bandaids – these don’t bother you at all. You simply pick up the clothes (and do all the laundry!), ignore the screeching (because they are kids and kids make loud weird noises), and buy more Frozen bandaids on your next Target trip. It’s just who you are. Calm and filled with patience. 

I’m grateful that you are my rock. 

You are my person and I wouldn’t trade you for anything. I honestly don’t know what I would do without you. Through the easy times and the hard you are by my side and would do anything for this family. We are eternally grateful for that. In many ways we are the same, but in so many ways we are opposite. You are calm and I can be a little crazy at times. A little. At times. But you’re always there to listen to me and offer your shoulder when I need it. You talk me down when I need it. And offer me support when I need it. I may not always say it, but I appreciate it. I appreciate you. 

I’m grateful that you are their Dad. 

Our two little ladies are beyond lucky that you are their father. You have taught them so much, and have a lifetime of teaching to go. You’ve shown them how to be kind, to be calm and to work hard for what you want. You have also shown them by example how to be a great husband and partner. They see the way you treat me, the love that you provide to our family and the hard work you do each and every day. And because of this they will grow up knowing what they deserve and should expect from every relationship that they are in. 

So while I may not say it every day, please know how truly grateful I am for you. I am so happy that you’re my husband, best friend, and their Dad.
